Sink or soar, or a summary of the year 2022 in architecture (part IX)

13 of January '23

The end of December — because that's when we finished preparing the January issue — is the best time for all kinds of summaries. And like every year, we ask practitioners and architecture critics to write what they consider a success and what they consider a failure in a given year. We do it in the convention of Sink or Soar. We give our Authors total freedom of expression and do not moderate this discussion. Rather, we are very curious about it.

Krakow point of view

Soar contests

The fact that in Krakow, an academic city with nearly 130,000 students at the tertiary level, universities are taking responsibility for the shape of space by selecting their investments through a competition procedure. In 2022, competitions were held for the building for the 100th anniversary of the Cracow University of Economics(SARP No. 1021, winner BE DDJM Architekci), for the new headquarters of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow(SARP No. 1021, winner BE DDJM Architekci), for the new building for the Cracow University of Economics. Krzysztof Penderecki in Krakow(SARP No. 018/R/2022, winner Konior Studio), and for the foreground of the headquarters of the Faculty of Architecture of the Krakow University of Technology(SARP No. 1027, winner Wojciech Sumlet Architektura).

Soar event

Resumption, after a pandemic break, of the lectures of the Meeting with the Master series, in which the SARP Krakow Branch has been presenting the architectural work of the most outstanding representatives of Polish architecture since 2013. In 2022, lectures were given by Jan Belina-Brzozowski, Konrad Grabowiecki and Wojciech Kotecki (BBGK Architects) and Marcin Kościuch and Tomasz Osięgłowski (Ultra Architects), and already in January 2023, Piotr Śmierzewski will appear as a master.

Multifaceted Sink

As in the past, the realization of railroad flyovers in Krakow, along with the way to transform (or not transform) adjacent urban spaces.
